Mohammad Ali Soroosh
Research Fellow
Mohmmad Ali Soroosh joined the Promise Institute for Human Rights at UCLA School of Law as a Research Fellow in late 2022. His is conducting research on Afghan political stability and constitutions under the supervision of Promise Faculty Director, Professor Stephen Gardbaum.
Soroosh has over a decade and half of work experience in national and international humanitarian and development organizations in various capacities ranging from Project Manager, Program Manager, Deputy Country Director and Country Director. Since mid-2011 he has also been teaching law and political science subjects as a part-time lecturer at Eshraq University, in Herat, Afghanistan.
He joined Help – Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe, a Germany-based INGO, in 2012 and for almost a decade worked in different positions. In Oct. 2020, he took over as Country Director, and went on to work, despite enormous challenges like insecurity, COVID-19 and collapse, till May 2022; successfully representing and providing leadership to the organization at the country level.
Soroosh is a 2017 graduate of UCLA School of Law, as user of Fulbright Program. He received his B.A. L.L.B from JMI University in New Delhi as user of Government of India ICCR Scholarship and has a Post-Graduate Diploma in Public International Law and Diplomacy from Indian Academy of International Law. He did his schooling in Herat, Afghanistan.
Contributing to and leading successful design and implementation of numerous projects and programs over the last one decade in challenging working environment of AFG are among his main achievements.
His interests include Comparative Constitutional Law, Public International Law and Development Studies.
