Environmental Racism & Climate (In)Justice: The Launch of UNSR on Racism E. Tendayi Achiume’s Final Thematic Report

As part of the Promise Institute for Human Rights’ ongoing work on racial justice and human rights, we launched U.N. Special Rapporteur on Racism E. Tendayi Achiume’s final thematic report on environmental racism and climate justice in New York City.

This was the first presentation of the Special Rapporteur’s latest report, which analyzed climate (in)justice as rooted in colonial histories and the persistent impacts of extractivism and structural racism today. The launch was accompanied by commentary from scholars and activists on how the global climate crisis is impacting Caribbean peoples.

Co-Sponsored by NYU’s Global Justice Clinic; Center on Race, Inequality, and the Law; Guarini Center on Environmental, Energy & Land Use Law and the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice.
